In demonstrating its ongoing commitment to supporting the work of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and within its remit as the Organization’s principal technical advisor, IACS will actively participate in the forthcoming 12th session of the Sub-Committee on Implementation of IMO Instruments (III 12) which will meet from 20 to 24 July 2026.
Noting the work IACS Members undertake as recognized organizations of IMO Member States, verifying compliance of ships with IMO agreed requirements, and with a view to achieving clarity for all parties, IACS has submitted the following documents:
III 12/9/2 comments on the discussion in documents III 12/9 and III 12/INF.5 and invites the Sub-Committee to consider whether the existing IMSAS audit treatment of port State control officer (PSCO) qualification and oversight could be clarified and applied more consistently within the current framework. It draws on recurring audit themes identified by the Secretariat in document III 10/INF.6 and on practical experience of classification societies of the operational uncertainty arising where inspection practices are not consistently supported by effective PSCO qualification, updating and oversight arrangements.
III 12/INF.27 comments on document III 12/INF.14 (Tokyo MoU) containing a report of recent activities of its PSC regimes in 2025. IACS makes this submission to raise awareness of the findings from the Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) it conducted in 2025, examining the emergency power supply of ships and to inform all those who may be interested in cooperating with IACS on the matter of the emergency power supply testing procedures.
